Everything you need to know about a Honduras Visa

If you are a British national, planning a short-term visit to Honduras, here’s an amazing bit of news. You don’t need a visa to enter the nation when your planned stay period does not exceed 30 days. 

Once you arrive at the airport, immigration officers shall affix an entry stamp that allows you a stay of up to one month.

If you wish to extend your stay under the visa-exemption facility, you can apply for an extension through the Immigration Office. However, do note that this extension allows you to stay in the country for a maximum span of up to three months.

Visitors who overstay the limit offered by the visa-free regime may have to pay a hefty fine at the Immigration Office. 

Hence, remember to apply for an extension at least a week before the expiry of the originally allowed limit.

Note: You cannot use the visa-exemption facility to enter Honduras for activities such as voluntary work. For this purpose, you need to contact the Honduran Embassy in London at hondurasuk@lineone.net.

In order to be granted entry into Honduras without a visa, your passport should be valid for a minimum period of six months from your arrival date in the nation. 

You should also ensure that your passport has at least two blank pages. Additionally, you must make sure that you carry proof of your financial stability and evidence of return or onward travel.

Entry requirements for foreigners traveling to Honduras

Foreigners residing in the UK under a valid UK visa or a residence permit may need to apply for a visa prior to their travel dates.

Even if you are a British citizen and plan to stay in Honduras for more than 30 days, you can secure a visa in advance through the Honduran Embassy in London. Below are the primary visa types issued by the consular section of the embassy:

• Tourist visa
• Business visa
• Family visit visa

For each of the above visa types, you need to submit the following documents:

• A duly filled and signed visa application form
• A passport having a remaining validity of at least six months and a minimum of two blank pages
• A photocopy of the biodata page of the passport
• A copy of your UK residence permit or UK visa
• Two recent passport-size photographs
• Receipt of the paid visa fee as per the visa type
• Minors, aged below 18 years and unaccompanied by both parents, one parent, or legal guardians need to provide a notarised letter of consent from the absent parent(s) or legal guardian(s)

Once you have the documents ready, you need to fix an appointment by calling the number 02074864880 or sending an email at hondurasuk@lineone.net.

On the designated date, please visit the consulate with your documents and submit the complete application package. If your visa is approved, you shall receive the stamped passport within the stipulated time frame.

Visas received after consulting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Certain visas are also sent by the Honduran Consulate to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which then conducts an interview.

Alternatively, you can file an application directly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if you have the required credentials or hold professional trade relations with Honduran authorities.

For this purpose you need to provide:

• Your complete name and nationality
• A filled VCA-4 form
• A valid passport
• Reasons for traveling to Honduras, along with the stated stay period
• Proof of employment, bank accounts, and property deeds
• Description of your complete itinerary
• Proof which specifies your immigration status in the UK
• Evidence of travel to other countries, if applicable

Once your request is received by the diplomatic or consular office, it shall submit the same to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the subsequent consultation formalities.

Central America Border Control Agreement

Honduras follows the policies outlined under the Central America Border Control Agreement, also called CA-4.

According to this agreement, British travelers can visit any of the CA-4 countries, including Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala, for a maximum stay (not exceeding three months), provided they complete all the entry and exit formalities at border immigration checkpoints.

Note that the 90-day period starts at your first point of entry. If you exceed this limit under any circumstances, you might be subjected to legal actions. You can, however, apply for an extension that allows an additional stay of up to 30 days.

Additional points

The Honduran authorities accept UK Emergency Travel Documents (ETDs) at ports of entry into Honduras, provided the document is valid for a minimum period of six months from your date of arrival in Honduras.

Honduras has no British Embassy. Hence, you can seek consular support only in Tegucigalpa and the Bay Islands.

Honduras holds a risk of dengue fever, especially in the regions of Cortés, Yoro, Olancho, and Santa Bárbara, and the San Pedro Sula metropolis.

It also has a risk of Zika virus transmission. Therefore, you are advised to take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance before traveling to the country.
