Everything You Need To Know About A Monaco Visa
All
matters related to entry, immigration, and customs in Monaco are handled by the
French government. Now, if you own a British citizen passport, you do not need
a visa to travel to Monaco. You can stay in the nation under the visa-exemption
facility for a maximum period of up to 3 months.
In
order to be granted a visa-free entry into Monaco, you need to present the
following documents after you arrive in the country:
- A valid passport that is not older
than 10 years and holds a minimum validity of 6 months from the arrival date in
Monaco
- Proof of accommodation in the form
of paid hotel bookings or a certificate, specifying that the traveler is
staying with a relative in Monaco
- Sufficient financial means, which
can be presented in the form of bank statements or traveler cheques. The
amounts are: 65 euros per day (after submission of a hotel booking), 120 euros
per day (in case, you have not done a hotel booking), and €32.50 per day (if
staying with a host in Monaco)
- Return or onward tickets
- Proof of purpose of the trip
- Proof of documents to the next
country in case the traveler is transiting via Monaco
- However,
if you belong to the following categories of travelers, you do not need to
present supporting documents at the border.
- Holders of a valid French/Monaco
residence permit, a movement document for foreign minors (DCEM) or a
French/Monaco identity certificate (TIR)
- Spouses of French/Monaco nationals
- Holders of a long-stay visa that
states: “residence permit must be applied for upon arrival in France/Monaco”
- Members of diplomatic missions,
consular posts, parliament, foreign public services, and intergovernmental
organisations
Visa requirements for foreigners traveling to Monaco
It is true that British citizens don’t need a visa to enter Monaco since the UK is a part of the European Union. However, if you are a foreigner residing in the United Kingdom, you might need a visa to visit Monaco.

Now, if you do need a visa, the process of applying for one is pretty simple. All you need to do is first decide the visa you need, depending on your purpose of visit. Fill the application form, attach it to the required documents, pay the required visa fee, fix an appointment with the consulate, and then attend the interview. That’s it! The embassy will inform you if your visa is approved usually within 10 working days.
Documents required to apply for a short-term Monaco visa
Primary documents
The following is the list of primary documents required for any type of short-term Monaco visa:
- A fully completed visa application form
- Two identical, passport size photos, not older than 3 months
- A passport not older than 10 years and with at least 6 months of remaining validity from the date of arrival in Monaco
- Old passports if they have visa stickers or visa stamps on them
- Copies of the biometric page of your passport
- A UK residence permit, valid for a minimum of 3 months from your date of departure from Monaco
- Flight reservations or tickets
- Comprehensive health insurance, amounting to a minimum of €30,000
- A cover letter written by the applicant, which specifies the exact purpose of visiting Monaco. It should contain details about the intended entry and exit dates, accommodation description, and reasons for the visit
- Proof of accommodation in the form of hotel bookings, letter of invitation, or rental agreement
- Evidence of finances, which can be submitted in the form of bank statements or a letter of support from a sponsor
- Employment proof in the form of an employment contract, 6 months’ bank statement, NOC, and ITR. Self-employed applicants can submit a copy of their business license, last 6 months’ bank statements, and ITR. Students need to share proof of enrollment and NOC from the institute they are studying in. Retired applicants should submit pension bank statement of the last 6 months.
- Minors need to submit evidence of their parents’ income and a notarized travel authorization from their parent(s) or legal guardian
Types of short-term Monaco visa
The following are the primary short-term visa types offered for traveling to Monaco

Supporting documents as per visa type
Apart from the primary documents listed above, you also need to submit a set of documents as per the specific visa type.
Tourist visa
- A detailed travel itinerary, which describes the reasons for making the trip, arrival and departure dates, activities planned in Monaco, and personal information
- An affidavit of support,written and signed by the sponsoring individual who plans to support the individual financially. This letter should be accompanied by bank statements of the sponsor
- Hotel bookings or a letter of invitation
- Family/Friends visit visa
- A letter of invitation from the host in Monaco
- A detailed travel itinerary
Business visa
- A letter of invitation from the company in Monaco
- A cover letter, which describes the organization the applicant works in and the position held by the individual in the company
- A letter submitted by the employer in the UK that states the reasons for travel and specifies the detailed itinerary of the applicant
Medical visa
- A letter from a certified doctor, clinic, or hospital in the UK stating that you need treatment in Monaco
- An official note confirming the treatment by the institute in Monaco
- Evidence of sufficient funds to undergo any treatment-related expenses in Monaco. This can be in the form of bank statements OR a sponsorship letter and bank statements of the sponsor OR evidence of advance payment and bank statement for additional expenses OR note verbale from the Ministry of Health in the UK, stating that the government would be covering the patient’s medical treatment expenses
Student visa
- Enrollment form for an educational course in the institute in Monaco
- An NOC from the relevant educational institution in the UK where the applicant is currently studying
Long-term Monaco visa
If you are planning to stay in Monaco on a long-term visit, you need to submit the same set of primary documents as listed under the short-term visa. In addition, you need to share a few supporting documents, which are as follows:
- A police record clearance certificate, issued by the authorities in the UK, which confirms that the applicant has no criminal history
- Evidence of zero bankruptcy in the past
- Proof of accommodation in the form of a rental agreement or hotel booking
- A work permit if the applicant plans on carrying out remuneration-generating employment in Monaco
- A work contract
- A marriage certificate if you visit Monaco to settle with your spouse
Applications for a Monaco visa should be applied around 3 months in advance before your planned trip.
However, since the processing takes at least from 10 to 15 days, you should lodge an application at least 15 days before your planned travel dates to Monaco.
