Information for Renewal of OCI Card
OCI cardholders may need to renew their OCI
cards or re-issue their OCI cards or transfer them to new passports.
There are various situations when the applicant
may need to do this. For example,re-issuance of OCI is mandatory every time passport
is renewed up to the age of 20 years, and again after attaining the age of 50
years in view of frequent biological changes in facial features in this age group.
Similarly, you may wish to
change the OCI card due to changes in personal details like the name, address, etc. You may also need a new OCI card if the current one is damaged or lost.
The application process, as well as the processing time, remains the same as the new OCI Card Application. The
documents required also remains the same as a new application, except you do
not need to prove your Indian Origin again. Instead, you need to provide
documents to prove your circumstances.
Depending on your
circumstances below are the list of documents required to process
renewal/reissue of OCI card-
Transfer of OCI on renewal
of passport
Applicants who have renewed
their old passports owing to expiry can transfer the OCI stamp from the old
passport to the new passport.
This is a mandatory
requirement for those below 20 and above 50. The documents needed are a) Copy
of the OLD passport along with the original b) Copy of new passport along with
the original c) Copy of all the pages of the current OCI card along with the
original
Re-issue of OCI owing to loss/stolen
of OCI booklet or Passport
If your passport or the OCI booklet is lost then you need to apply for
re-issue of a new OCI card. In this case, you would need to produce a) Copy of
old passport, copy of new passport, and copy of OCI booklet.
Originals of the documents in possession (not lost) are also required
along with the copies. b) A copy of the police report/crime reference number is
required. c) A letter /declaration from the applicant detailing the
circumstance in which the documents were lost. c) Copy of Surrender Certificate with those of Indian origin.
Issue of new OCI Visa and OCI booklet in case
of damaged OCI booklet OR change of personal particulars (change of name,
address, wrong date of birth in OCI booklet etc.)
If your OCI booklet or the
passport with OCI sticker is damaged then you have to apply for re-issue of a
new OCI card.
Similarly, you need to
apply for a new OCI card if you wish to change name or address or correct any
information like the date of birth or the place of birth.
In such cases, you will need
to produce a) Copy of all the pages of the OCI booklet along with the original
b) copy of your current passport along with the original c) in case of damaged
OCI sticker, copy of the old damaged passport along with the original.
If the damaged passport is
not returned by the passport office on renewal of the passport, you are
required to include a letter detailing the circumstances in which the passport
was damaged.
You are also required to
confirm the fact that the old/damaged passport is not returned by the passport
office.
