Everything You Need To Know About A Tajikistan Visa
British
nationals traveling to Tajikistan require a visa before they start with their
journey. You can apply for a regular visa through the embassy in London or
apply online for an e-visa. Here are the major visa types:

Groups
E-visa
An
e-visa is issued if you are traveling to Tajikistan for a short-term visit,
including tourism and business. You can only use it as a single-entry visa and
when your stay period does not exceed 45 days. Both tourist and business
e-visas have a validity of 3 months.
An
e-visa is an easier means of gaining admission at ports of entry, without
visiting the diplomatic/consular missions abroad. You need to fill an online
application form, make the required payment, and after approval, you can obtain
your visa electronically on your registered email.
Note:
While applying for an e-visa, the validity of your passport should not be less
than 6 months.
You
should take a printout of the approval document and present it before passport
control officers at the airport. They can verify your e-visa in their system
but it is advisable to carry a soft/hard copy in order to avoid unnecessary
complications. Once everything is in order, the officer shall place an entry
stamp on your passport.
Regular Tourist Visa (T)
A
regular tourist visa grants entry to British nationals planning to visit the
Republic of Tajikistan individually or as part of an organized tourist group.
It is available in single, double, and multiple entries -- with validities of
14, 30, 60, and 90 days. The maximum allowable stay is up to 90 days.
In
order to apply for a tourist visa, you need the primary documents (passport,
application form, photographs) and supporting documents such as reservation for
the hotel/place of stay, LOI of the licensed tourist organization (when the
tour is organized by a touring company), and travel itinerary.
Note:
When you enter Tajikistan on a tourist visa, you cannot extend your stay or
replace it with another visa category. Hence, you should leave the country
before your visa expires.
Regular Business Visa (K)
A
regular business visa allows you to enter Tajikistan for business purposes,
such as participating in business negotiations, meetings, symposiums, forums,
conferences, tenders, contract conclusions, creation of joint ventures, Tajik
market studies, auctions, exhibitions, and fairs, rendering of advisory and
auditor services, among others.
It
is also available in single, double, and multiple entries, with validities of
14 days, 1 month, 2 months, and 3 months. It grants a maximum stay of up to 90
days.
The
supporting documents required are a covering letter and a letter of invitation.
If you require a visa that is valid for more than a month, you need to request
a visa support letter/confirmation of invitation from the Consular Department
of MoFA Tajikistan. Once you get this document, you can apply for the visa
through the Embassy.
Diplomatic Visa (A)
A
diplomatic visa is issued to diplomats, foreign government officials and
representatives of international organizations. In order to apply for this visa,
you need to submit a verbal note of the foreign affairs representation,
diplomatic representatives, consular establishments of the foreign states and
international organizations -- along with the rest of the primary documents
(visa application form, valid passport, photographs).
Official Visa (X)
An
official business visa can be requested by members of official foreign
delegations, administrative-technical employees of diplomatic representatives.
It is also available for employees of international organizations in
Tajikistan. You can apply for an official visa if you have a diplomatic mail,
without a diplomatic passport.
Other
individuals who can apply for this visa type are Honourable Consuls of the
Republic of Tajikistan, and foreign citizens traveling to Tajikistan on service
affairs.
An
official visa is valid up to a maximum period of one year. You need to present
a verbal note of foreign affairs representation, diplomatic representatives,
consular establishments of the foreign states and international organizations
-- in order to apply for an official visa.
Investment Visa (C)
An
investment visa is issued to heads of large, foreign companies entering
Tajikistan for making significant investments that help the economy of
Tajikistan. It is also given to individuals who form an administrative part of
large foreign firms and the companies working in the Tajik market.
The
supporting documentation required for this visa type comprises a covering
letter from the company/firm and a letter from the State Committee for
Investment and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Work Visa (M)
You
may apply for a work visa when you travel to the Republic of Tajikistan to
work, as per international contracts and agreements. In order to obtain this
visa, you should submit a petition of the inviting organization or the citizen
of Tajikistan requesting a visa and signed labor or civil contract.
A
work visa is valid for up to 3 months. Once you land in the country, you can
extend the visa by obtaining a work permit from the Migratory service of the
Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Educational Visas (O-1 and O-2)
Educational
visas are available in two categories -- O-1 and O-2. An O-1 visa is issued
when you wish to study in educational establishments in Tajikistan. Educational
purposes include seeking a post-graduate or doctor’s degree. It can be obtained
only from the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of
Tajikistan.
An
O-2 visa is required when you enter Tajikistan for studying on an educational
practice or training. It is also applicable when you wish to get admitted to an
educational establishment or temporarily attend a language learning course.
The
mandatory supporting documents required for an O-2 visa are a petition of the
specific educational/scientific institution or a petition of the organization
sending the student on a training, exchange programs, educational practice, or
studying a language.
Free Economic Zone Visa
This
visa is required when you are going to Tajikistan for conducting labor and
enterprise activities in the territory of Free Economic Zones. A letter of the
Administration of free economic zones and work permit authorization need to be
attached to your visa application package. It is valid for up to 3 months with an option for
subsequent extension
Private Visa
A
private visa is issued by the embassy when you enter the Republic of Tajikistan
to visit relatives and friends. It is also required if you are traveling on a
vacation, for treatment or with other purposes of private character. The
supporting documentation required is a notice of the Migratory service of the
Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan (OVIR). A private
visa is valid for 3 months.
Immigrant Visa
If
you wish to enter Tajikistan for residing on a permanent basis, you can apply
for an immigrant visa. You can use it until the reception of a residence
permit. You should apply for this visa by submitting a written request that
contains a detailed description of your plans in Tajikistan, funds
availability, and a letter/petition of the law-enforcement bodies in
Tajikistan.
An
immigrant visa comes with a validity period not exceeding 3 months. It can be
extended further once you enter the nation.
Visa for
sportsmen and creative groups (??)
A
sportsman visa grants entry to UK nationals traveling for international
competitions, training, cultural actions and rehearsals. In order to obtain the
visa, you need to present a verbal note of foreign policy departments or a
letter- petition from the official body hosting the sportsmen or creative
groups.
Mass Media Visa
A
mass media visa is issued to correspondents, operators, journalists and other
employees of foreign mass media. As a supporting document, you have to submit a
verbal note of foreign policy departments or accreditation of foreign
correspondents (issued by MFA of Tajikistan). A mass media visa arrives with a
validity of 3 months, with an option of extension in Tajikistan.
Missionary Visa
You
can apply for a missionary visa if you are an authorized employee of a
religious organization and intend to carry out related activities in the
nation. Supporting documents required are a verbal note of the foreign policy
Department and the letter petition of the religious organization. A missionary
visa has a validity of 4 months with the facility of extension in Tajikistan.
Humanitarian Visa
A
humanitarian visa is issued to UK nationals entering Tajikistan with the
purpose of delivery or support of cargoes for humanitarian aids. As supporting
documents, you have to attach a verbal note from foreign policy departments or
accredited establishments and a letter-petition from an official body in
Tajikistan. It is issued for a period as required to conclude the humanitarian
activity in the country.
Visa for Commercial Activities
This
visa type is needed when you wish to conduct commercial activities in
Tajikistan. It is valid for 3 months with the option of subsequent extension in
Tajikistan.
GBAO Permit
You
can apply for a GBAO e-visa or regular visa if you are entering the Kuhistoni
Badakhshan Autonomous Province of Tajikistan (GBAO). This frontier territory
within the nation requires an individual entry document -- a stamp on a
separate page of the passport. Using this visa, you can visit Khorugh, Darvoz,
Vanj, Rushon, Ishkoshim and Murghab districts.
If
you wish to apply for a GBAO permit, you must indicate your purpose clearly on
the visa application form.
Additional Notes
When
you travel to Tajikistan, make sure that you land in the country with the
correct visa type. For all other visas, apart from a tourist visa, you have to
register with the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before
3 days of entry into Tajikistan. You may also do the registration in the hotel
where you are staying.
Visa
extensions are processed by the Consular Department of the Tajik Ministry of
Foreign Affairs.
If
your travel itinerary includes travel to the Khatlon Region bordering
Afghanistan, you should apply for a permit via the Consular Department of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dushanbe before your journey.
If
your next destinations include Russia, Kazakhstan or Uzbekistan, you have to
obtain a re-entry visa before entering Tajikistan again.
Transit
visas are not required by UK nationals if you are staying in the airport for
less than 24 hours. However, you need to have a transit visa if you wish to
stay longer, up to three days, and venture out of the airport. A long-term
transit visa is issued by Intourist
Tajikistan or the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs after arrival.
UK Emergency Travel Documents
The
government of Tajikistan does not allow entry with a UK Emergency Travel
Document (ETD). If you happen to lose your passport during your stay in
Tajikistan, you can apply for an ETD at the British Embassy in Dushanbe.
However, you have to obtain an exit visa from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
or Office of Visas and Registrations before you depart from Tajikistan. The
time frame for issuing an exit permit takes up to 5 working days.
