I own a Thai Tourist Visa, issued from the Royal Thai Embassy in London. But it does not have an expiry date. What should I do?

If your Thai visa is issued by the Thai Embassy and it is authentic, you can get the corrections done at the Embassy in London. However, if you have already gained entry into Thailand, please visit the Visa Division, Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Chaengwattana Road in Bangkok. Do not forget to carry your passport. All the corrections will be addressed here.

Can I extend the allowed period of stay on my Tourist Visa?

Yes, you can. Simply visit the nearest Immigration Office in Thailand (www.immigration.go.th) and apply for an extension. Do remember that you can extend your stay for a maximum of another 30-day period. But, you need to ensure that this period falls within the visa expiry or validity date. Else, you have to pay a fine of 500 Baht for each day you overstay in Thailand.

The visa validity on my tourist visa is 3 months. Does this mean I can stay for 90 days?

No. The visa validity means that you can enter and exit Thailand within that period of 90 days. If you do not use your visa in that time frame, it means that your visa has expired and you need to reapply. The duration of stay, which is specified on your visa, is the allowable time for your stay in Thailand -- calculated from the date of entry, which is 60 days.

Can I stay in Thailand for a longer duration as a retired individual on a regular tourist visa?

If you are a British national who is above 50 years of age and wish to stay in Thailand for a longer duration after retirement, the best option is to apply for a non-immigrant O-A visa. You can apply for this visa at the Royal Thai Embassy in London and you must ensure that you don’t engage in any employment options during your stay. This visa comes with a maximum allowable stay of 1 year from the date of first entry. You are also eligible to apply for an extension of stay later. What are my options if I lose my tourist visa?

If you have lost your passport, please visit the nearest police station and report your loss. Now, visit the British Embassy in Bangkok and request the issue of a new passport. You can also apply for a temporary travel document. Next, submit the new passport or travel document in person at the Immigration Office. Here, the officials shall endorse it. You can exit Thailand using these documents. However, before visiting Thailand again, you need to apply for a fresh visa.
