Everything You Need To Know About A Sudanese Visa
British
nationals require to apply for a visa through the Sudanese Embassy in London
before traveling to Sudan.
Sudanese visas are available in the following common
types:
- Tourist Visa
- Business Visa
- NGO Visa
- Private Visa
- Official Travel Visa
NOTE:
Before applying for any category of visa, you need to submit an application to
the Aliens Department at the Ministry of Interior in Khartoum, through your
sponsor in Sudan. They will provide you with a unique entry permit number. You
have to mention this number on your visa application form.
If
you are traveling to Sudan for official missions sponsored by governmental
institutions, foreign diplomatic missions, or International or Non-governmental
Organizations, you can apply through your sponsor in Sudan or in person at the
Embassy in London.
All
applications for any category of ordinary visas must be submitted in person.
Official visas can be submitted through post or couriers. Your passport should
not contain any entry and exit stamps from Israel.
Tourist Visa
A
Sudanese tourist visa arrives with a validity of two months and is available in
a single entry. For this, when you send your application form to the embassy,
please ensure that you completely fill it with all the details along with the
sponsor details fully provided therein. Attach a passport-size photograph and a
passport with a minimum validity of 6 months and at least 2 blank visa pages.
Additionally,
you need to share your detailed itinerary, bank statement, and letter of
invitation.
Business Visa
A
business visa is available only in single entry and comes with a validity of 2
months. The documentation requirements are similar to those of a tourist visa.
You need an application form (completed and signed with sponsor details), a
valid passport, one passport-size photograph, and itinerary.
Additionally,
you will also need an employment letter and a business invitation letter.
NGO Visa
A
single-entry NGO visa arrives with a maximum validity of up to 2 months. The
documentation requirements are as follows:
- One fully completed and signed visa
application form
- A signed passport in original,
having a minimum validity of 6 months and at least 2 blank pages

your passport
- One passport-size, colored
photograph, not older than 3 months, against a white background

your employer in the UK
- A letter of invitation from the
company in Sudan addressed to the Consulate of Sudan
- A proof of purpose issued and
approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sudan
Private Visa
A
private visa is valid for 2 months and is issued only for entering and existing
Sudan once during its validity period.
The
documents required are:
- A completely filled visa application
form with each field correctly entered
- An original, valid passport (6
months validity and at least 2 unused visa pages)
- A photocopy of the biodata pages of
your passport
- One passport-size, colored, and
recent photograph
- A letter of invitation from your
host in Sudan issued and approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sudan
Once
you submit your application for a private visa at the Embassy of Sudan in
London, you should know that it will be referred for approval, a process that
can take up to 8 weeks for final visa approval to be granted.
Official Travel Visa
An
official travel visa is valid for 2 months and also arrives only in a single
entry. The primary documentation requirements are as follows:
- An application form, completely
filled with all the necessary details and signed in original
- A 6-months valid passport with a
minimum of 2 blank pages
- One passport size photo
- An original introduction letter
issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
- A letter of invitation from your
sponsoring company in Sudan issued and approved by the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs
- An Appendix B or Note Verbale in
original, which specifies the purpose of travel from the relevant Government
Agency/Embassy/Consulate/State Enterprise/International Organisation in Sudan
Even
when applying for this visa, it will be first referred for approval, which can
take up to 8 weeks. So plan your travel accordingly.
Registration in Sudan after arriving in the country
After
you arrive in Sudan, you must register with the Aliens Department at the
Ministry of Interior within 3 days post your entry date. For this, you have to
submit two passport size photos and pay a fee in Sudanese Pound equivalent to
approximately £35. Failure to register yourself can lead to heavy fines. You
can ask your hotel your host for assistance if you need help with carrying out
the process.
Exiting from Sudan
All
entry visas to Sudan are issued only in a single entry. Hence, sometimes, you
might be asked to apply for an exit visa to leave the country. This is not a
mandatory requirement.
So, confirm with the embassy if an exit visa is needed
and whether it can be processed at the airport. In order to apply for one, you
have to present proof of your sponsor and pay a visa fee of 50 USD.
British
nationals are also usually asked to display an exit permit. Please ensure that you
confirm the departure checklist with your sponsor before your arrival. At
times, if you plan to leave early, this requirement may prove to be an issue.
Transiting through Sudan
You
do not need a visa to transit via Sudan, provided you stay in the airport
transit area for not more than 6 hours and your passport does not have an
Israeli entry/exit stamp. Remember to carry all your documentation for your
next destination and to confirm with the connecting airlines if they allow
boarding without a transit visa.
Visa requirements for children under 18 years
Children
under 18 years must have a visa to enter Sudan. Additionally, they must also
carry written proof of their father’s consent to enter and exit Sudan, if they
are traveling without their father. This letter should be stamped by the
Sudanese Embassy before travel.
In
case, an applicant’s father is not present or is deceased, he or she should
possess a court order from their guardian or mother -- specifying that the
individual has sole custody for the child. Kids of divorced parents must submit
divorce documents. Where the father is deceased, they need to share a death
certificate.
Previous travel to Israel
If
you have a British passport and you have an Israeli visa or Israeli entry/exit
stamps, you will not be granted a visa to enter Sudan.
UK Emergency Travel Documents
The
Republic of Sudan does not consider UK ETDs at points of transit and entry.
But, you can use an ETD to exit Sudan. If you are a UK citizen with Sudanese
origins, you can, however, apply for an ETD to enter Sudan when you do not have
the required valid travel documents to take a flight to Sudan.
You can use it
only once and must hand it over to the port authorities in Sudan after arrival.
For
this purpose, you require to fill and submit an application form for ETD
issuance. Attach 2 passport-size photos and proof of settlement in the UK.
Additionally, you also need to submit a Sudanese ID.
For
children who are born in the UK, a birth certificate along with the Sudanese
IDs of the father is required. If the children are of Sudanese origins, they
need to have a birth certificate. An application for an ETD must be made in
person at the embassy in London.
Entry requirements for dual-citizenship holders
If
you are a British passport holder and also have Sudanese citizenship, you can
apply for a Sudanese entry visa through the embassy provided you have a valid
Sudanese ID. You need to submit a filled visa application form with the exact
sponsor details, accompanied with one passport-size photo.
If
the applicant is under 18 years, he/she should also provide an express written
consent by the father.
Once you submit the completed application package, your
visa will be stamped on the passport, after payment of the required fee. You
may be asked to present additional documentation if required by a specific
category of visas.
